Today’s modern fishing rods have features incorporated into them that are not typical of the original primitive cane pole. Most modern makes contain reels, which aid in the retrieval of the fighting fish looking to shake free. A spinning rod is an entirely different and far more technically advanced piece of hardware. The shaft and handle are very cleverly designed so that they can rotate around each other to give a high amount of flexibility when trying to land a fish struggling fiercely. Similar to the standard cane type it also tapers from a narrow tip down to a thick base at the handle. This is by far a superior but still simple design giving excellent control and manoeuvrability.
Specifications and Types
With your normal length being between 5 and 17 feet and a varying degree of strength to cope with a large range of stress pressures depending on use the range of products is extensive. One of the key factors on deciding upon which length to use is the weight of the fish that you are after.
Cane Poles
The simplest and most basic of all rods is the cane pole and it’s also the shortest. This simple set up consists of a fly line attached to a flexible wooden shaft usually bamboo. Where most rods have reels to help with the process of pulling in fish these generally don’t have these modern attachments fitted to them. Instead you use the motion of pulling on the rod which is known as angling.
Spinning Rods
This is regarded as the best selling type available as they are suitable for a variety of uses from catching heavy to lightweight fish. Many anglers agree that for trout and bass fishing rods these are the ones to use and come in many sizes with a good range of attachments with Quantum Fishing Rods and Shakespeare Fishing Rods displaying large ranges. The strength and superior flexing of these types make them the sturdiest available for heavy fishing and a competition favourite. The options for being able to cope with larger line sizes and reels is also a winning factor when choosing a rod
Jigging Rods
Used for Deep Sea Fishing these are best for when you use heavier lines and lures and working at depths over 150 feet. Strong under water currents and tides can easily cause lighter lines and tackle to get tangled when a few people are fishing. Another problem is if the lures are constantly moved around the fish won’t go near them. Jiggler rods are designed to deal with this type of fishing and cope with the longer and heavier lines required for this type of deep fishing mainly for the likes of cod and often as a salmon fishing rod. They are made from composite material like and are very strong and heavier than other types of rods. You can find a good range of this type of rod on these pages Shimano Fishing Rods, Penn Rods, Tica Rods and Berkley Fishing Rods .
